About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Blackleach Allotments Community Garden & Community Starter Plots

LOCATION: Salford

FUNDING: Awarded £40,000 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: Blackleach Allotment Association

The idea

Blackleach Allotments Community Garden & Community Starter Plots are utilising unused space to build a wellbeing wildlife garden, involving members of the community and volunteers from the start of the project. The project will reduce barriers to gardening and create opportunities for local residents with no gardens or those who wish to garden collectively and create new friendships across the community.

Once the plots are up and running, regular workshops will provide community plot holders with the skills they need to sow, grow and harvest food. The workshops will be run by Blackleach Allotments Association, Manchester Urban Diggers, The Royal Horticultural Society, Incredible Education, and We Dig Salford.

Hedges, plants and trees will be planted at the site to create valuable habitat for wildlife to thrive. This will bring added benefits of pest control and carbon storage.
