Coming soon: a local carbon market for Greater Manchester

The Greater Manchester Environment Fund has an ambitious vision for a clean, carbon-neutral and climate resilient city region, with a thriving natural environment. To make this a reality, we are exploring opportunities to set up a regional carbon mitigation facility which will enable local businesses to support high quality carbon projects across Greater Manchester through the purchase of carbon credits, accelerating their journeys to net-zero.

The expertise of GMEF and our delivery partners ensures that funds and investment have a transformational impact, demonstrate value for money and bring benefits to all who invest.

The benefits of collaborating with GMEF

Ecological success

Many offsetting opportunities are based on reactive and scattered sites with low ecological impact. Our joined-up sites approach means that sites can better support diverse wildlife and are more resilient in the face of a changing climate.

Our projects are aligned to Greater Manchester’s 2038 carbon neutral target and Local Nature Recovery Strategy, and all restoration is overseen by experienced ecological experts.

A smooth delivery process

Multiple projects and a centralised marketplace creating economies of scale means the opportunity is cost effective for local businesses. GMEF can play a broker role and benefits from a consistent approach with template agreements, coordinated monitoring and verification, etc.

Our offtake agreements will ensure a steady supply of carbon credits, so you can be assured that you will meet your corporate net-zero targets.

Local impact

You can be confident in our credibility and commitment, as we aim to deliver long-term carbon and biodiversity benefits. We also aim to benefit local communities across Greater Manchester through public access to the sites, community engagement, training and job creation, and a regional hub for information sharing.

This service is coming soon - keep an eye on our website for the latest news. If you have any questions in the meantime, you can get in touch with our team by e-mailing gmenvfund@lancswt.org.uk.
