Growing the Green Spaces Fund

Growing a Greener Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester’s green spaces are vital to those living and working in the city-region. Their importance became even more apparent as people discovered and appreciated green spaces throughout the pandemic, and realised how important they are to our wellbeing.

The natural environment also addresses the impacts of climate change – reducing flood risk, keeping urban areas cooler, locking up carbon, improving air quality and providing space for wildlife.

But not everyone has equal access to safe, quality green space and the health and wellbeing benefits they provide.

Our £2.6m Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund is turning this around by offering grants to community-led projects that increase the quality and quantity of accessible, nature-rich green space in the city region, particularly in the areas where people need it most.

The Next Chapter

The demand for funding from groups across Greater Manchester has been huge and we have received more ambitious and exciting proposals than we have been able to fund. We aim to keep growing the Green Spaces Fund, so that more people across Greater Manchester can enjoy access to green spaces.

Do you share our desire to ensure a brighter, greener future for Greater Manchester? We have exciting opportunities for businesses to support the next chapter of the Green Spaces Fund.

Donating to the fund is good for both nature and business, as you are investing in a healthy future for Greater Manchester and improving the green spaces that you and your employees can access. We can also offer corporate team days, so your staff can visit local projects, get stuck in with practical tasks, and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits that come from spending time in the great outdoors.
