About the project
PROJECT TITLE: Brookburn Recycles
LOCATION: Manchester
FUNDING: Awarded £6,700 from the Recycle for Greater Manchester Community Fund (2021 - 2022)
PARTNERS: Brookburn Primary School Parent Teacher Association, St Cuthberts RC Primary School
The idea
Brookburn Primary School is using this funding to install separated waste and recycling bins in the school playground.
The school’s Ecobuddies student group helps lead environmental initiatives including litter-picking. They have requested separated rubbish-recycling-food waste bins be installed in order to prevent bins from overflowing and litter blowing throughout the school grounds - some which enters into the adjoining wetlands and waterways feeding into the River Mersey.
Brookburn Parent Teacher Association and St. Cuthbert’s RC Primary School have joined together to apply for funding for these separated bins in response to the Ecobuddies’ concerns. Together, the two schools will be diverting nearly 70kgs of recyclable and compostable waste from landfill/incineration each week and the increased capacity of bins will prevent litter from polluting the surrounding area.
