The idea
The Boiler House is a centre for making and mending in Moss Side run by Sow the City CIC. Their new Community Repaint project will divert leftover and surplus paint from retailers, waste management companies, household clearance companies, paint manufacturers and redistribute to local communities. As well as preventing waste, the project will support those in need by supplying affordable paint for the community and providing volunteering opportunities and training placements.
Community RePaint is a well-established model and there are many successful examples around the UK. The new Boiler House project will be the nearest RePaint scheme for over 1 million people in Manchester. Similar projects redistribute up to 85,000 litres per year of paint.
