FUNDING: Awarded £28,456 by the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

The idea

The Green Hub project is creating an inspiring community growing and wildlife space and an accessible hub of climate friendly activity.

The team will engage volunteers to create a range of habitats for wildlife throughout the Green Hub. Activities will include building bug hotels using recycled materials, using cuttings from hedge and shrub maintenance to make habitat piles, adding a compost heap, planting fruit bushes, creating a perennial wildlife garden and herb garden providing year round food for pollinators, creating a bog garden area, and adding a native, diverse wildlife hedge.

Volunteers will learn how to identify flora and fauna through the project and better understand how to help nature to thrive. Workshops will be hosted on topics such as identifying and recording wildlife, planting and maintaining a wildlife hedge, making bug hotels, pesticide-free growing practices, and creating bog gardens. Monthly family friendly events and working with schools will ensure young people have ample opportunity to get involved.
