About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Heathlands Village Green (Space) Project

LOCATION: Bury, Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Trafford

FUNDING: Awarded £28,128 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: The Federation of Jewish Services

The idea

The project will improve access to nature for vulnerable people and people living with disabilities across Greater Manchester by extending and improving the group's existing green spaces and surrounding woodland so that more people can access the area. The team will encourage local people to get involved in the project through volunteering activities.

Activities will include the development of a sensory wildflower garden, raised beds, and a forest school facility with a covered seating area. Shrubs that aren't beneficial for wildlife will be replaced with a mix of small native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Enclosed, secure green spaces will also be available for people living with dementia and complex health needs to access with their families.

The team will run community open days where local people can get involved in planting sessions, take seeds harvested from the garden, and access the forest school facility. The space can also be utilised by other groups such as local Brownie groups and schools
