About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Seeding the Change

LOCATION: Stockport

FUNDING: Awarded £36,205 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: Seeding the Change

The idea

Seeding the Change are running weekly gardening sessions with participants at Shaw Heath Recreation Ground and Victoria Park. Each session will provide the opportunity for participants to learn and share gardening techniques and skills on topics including wildlife areas, perennial, annual and bulb planting, vegetable plots, and community orchards. Participants will be able to engage at any level they feel comfortable and there will be spaces to relax, enjoy the green space and connect with others.

Green space that children can use will be created at each site with wildlife areas and sensory planting that will enhance active play whilst giving young people the chance to explore natural ecosystems and build an interest in the natural world. Seasonal events such as a garden based Easter Egg hunt, pumpkin picking sessions, and a Christmas event at each site will be held to encourage people to visit the green spaces.

The team will also support participants to 'grow their own at home' by providing planting equipment, seeds and plants that can be used as window boxes or on balconies. This will also increase green space whilst promoting healthy sustainable food choices.
