About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Garden Gateway to Northern Roots

LOCATION: Oldham

FUNDING: Awarded £17,104 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: Northern Roots

The idea

Northern Roots are working to create a new garden, seating area, wildlife pond, community orchard and wildflower area at the entrance to the Northern Roots site. The area currently delivers very little benefits to biodiversity, so the team will be working to plant trees and edible and sensory plants and create a wildlife pond to provide food and habitat for wildlife, capture carbon and create areas of shade.

The new garden will also create a focal point for engaging people with the wider Northern Roots site and project, which has been identified as a nature recovery network and pollinator pathway, and offers enormous long term opportunities for biodiversity net gain, citizen science, education and engagement with nature.Â
