About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Green Collyhurst

LOCATION: Manchester

FUNDING: Awarded £39,930 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

PARTNERS: Collyhurst Community Enterprises

The idea

Green Collyhurst will transform several unused pieces of land in the centre of Collyhurst into an openly accessible, attractive and productive community garden and growing space. Visitors can get involved in training on how to plant, maintain and harvest their own food and how to manage and maintain a green space, and educational classes will be hosted for schools from the area. A volunteer programme will also be set up providing a range of roles to support the project which people can choose depending on their interests.

A community area will allow people to sit, chat, rest and enjoy time in the little green oasis. A café already on site can provide a space for the project to host healthy eating classes and distribute produce.

The project also will create a wildflower area as a space for insects, birds and other small animals. The flowers and grasses in the area will also add colour and beauty for the community to enjoy.
