New Wilds in Lostock Park

About the project

PROJECT TITLE: New Wilds in Lostock Park

LOCATION: Trafford

FUNDING: Awarded £14,000 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: The Friends of Lostock Park

The idea

Friends of Lostock Park aim to improve areas within and around Lostock Park to support more biodiversity and improve the visual attractiveness of the park for visitors to give them a space to socialise, relax and exercise.

Local people, schools and groups will be able to get involved in planting, seeding and caring for the park through volunteering opportunities and planting days. Volunteers will also create materials to engage the community, such as adding photos of plants, trees and flowers in each new season to notice boards to encourage visitors to walk and spot them. Training opportunities will also allow volunteers to develop new skills, such as scything, and tree and wildflower identification.

Through collaborating with The Conservation Volunteers, the project will also provide engagement sessions with veterans, dementia groups and people living with disabilities.
