About the project
PROJECT TITLE: Oldham Community Garden
LOCATION: Oldham
FUNDING: Awarded £40,000 in Round One of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
PARTNERS: Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Oldham
Background
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Oldham wanted to create a green hub within a previously industrial, urban area that did not have any green space for the community to enjoy.
The idea
The project aims to increase the health and wellbeing of the community, who will benefit from outdoor space - particularly those who have no existing access to green space in their own homes.
It will create a unique space comprising landscaped gardens, kids outdoor play area and a greenhouse, featuring a wide range of plants and trees to encourage biodiversity. The garden will be a place for people to enjoy nature, promote mental wellbeing and bring the community together. Approximately 50 trees will be planted, with a team of 200+ volunteers contributing to the running of the scheme,
