About the project
PROJECT TITLE: St Wilfrid's Home Garden
LOCATION: Manchester
FUNDING: Awarded £14,836 in Round Two of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
PARTNERS: Firmstart Manchester CIC
The idea
Firmstart Manchester are working to develop a garden for the local community to visit, grow their own produce, make friends and enjoy time in a green space. Fresh, local produce will be available for members of the community on low income, and groups can come together to share recipes and ideas.
The WomenMatta group based at St Wilfrid's provides a service for women and families that have suffered from domestic abuse and prison sentences. They will now be able to utilise the green space to provide a therapeutic approach to rehabilitation, giving the service users a chance to improve their psychological health and wellbeing.
The team will also be managing the space with nature in mind, by planting trees, hedges and plants for pollinators.
