The idea

The Peace Garden (Cateaton Street) project will work with the residents of Moorside community to develop a community-friendly green space, open to the public at all times. Ideas from the residents will be taken onboard, such as planting a rose archway, setting up planters to grow fruit and vegetables and building a colourful, sensory area and rain pond for children. Regular events will take place at the site, such as a cooking sessions to use food from the gardens.

A native hedge, fruit trees and other plants will be planted to create habitat for wildlife, with a bug hotel providing safe spaces for insects, grassy borders creating wildlife corridors and a small wetland area providing vital water for animals. A compost bin will be set up and soil for the garden used from there instead of peat.
