What We Do

Funding a Greener Greater Manchester

The Greater Manchester Environment Fund (GMEF) is the UK’s first regional environmental impact fund benefitting the region socially, environmentally, and financially. We are a central funding source for environmental projects that are working to benefit both nature and people.

We bring great causes and great supporters together, matching generous funding from philanthropists, private donors and compensation funds with exciting projects of all sizes across Greater Manchester.

GMEF can ensure there is funding available for projects working to resolve environmental and natural health issues in the diverse communities around Greater Manchester through funding from donors, enforcement undertakings, and taxes and levies such as landfill tax and carrier bag charges. We have already supported over 100 projects across Greater Manchester, ranging from encouraging recycling and reuse to improving green space across the region and creating and restoring habitats.

We can also work with companies to enable them to deliver their Biodiversity Net Gain commitments and to accelerate their journey to Net Zero through carbon offsetting opportunities. An added bonus for companies choosing to support and collaborate with GMEF is that all of the projects we fund are local, improving the areas that employees live in and can be visited for corporate volunteer days.

If you are interested in meeting the team to discuss current opportunities and how we can work together to improve Greater Manchester’s environment for all, we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch by e-mailing us at gmenvfund@lancswt.org.uk.

It is a celebration and thanks to all who have enabled, supported, funded and encouraged the establishment of the UK’s first city region wide environmental impact fund.
